Sellery defines “Plastic-Free” products as products that do not contain fossil fuel-based fibers. Sellery has a strict policy against partnering with brands that allow >15% virgin plastic materials in any of their products. The 15% allowance is in place as Sellery recognizes that in some cases significant innovation is needed to create responsible alternatives that can maintain the necessary level of performance, as well as the need for enough supply of the alternatives to meet demand. Brands with up to 15% virgin plastics must also have a plan to replace and eliminate fossil fuel-based materials with more responsible alternatives as innovation and supply allows. Semi-synthetic materials are included because they are derived from natural fibers, not fossil fuel-based materials. Sellery supports the use of recycled oil/fossil fuel-based fibers as a temporary solution to the immediate crisis of landfill-bound plastics as the industry moves toward more circular business models.
